QUANDO USAR  LIKE  , AS or SUCH AS

Like (when used to mean "similar to") is a preposition. As (when used to mean "in the same manner") is a conjunction. Prepositions govern nouns, pronouns, and words used as nouns. Conjunctions join clauses.

So, "Like Pan, I'm an orangatan."
But, "Pan behaves as a good orangatan should behave."

Basically, if a subject and verb are to follow, use "as." If a single word follows, use "like."

Of course, in common speech, people use these words interchangeably.

Both 'as' and 'like' can be used to talk about how things are similar. But they are often confused.
'Like' is followed by a noun or pronoun. 'I'm like my sister.' 'Like my sister, I have brown eyes.'
'As' is followed by a subject and verb. 'She's a good student, as her brother was before he.' Although in spoken English many people use 'like' instead of 'as'. 'She's a good student, like her brother was before her.'
'As' is also used with prepositions 'as in the 1960s'
'As' is also used in certain expressions 'as you know' 'as you wish' 'as you requested'.
We also use 'as'...'as' to make comparisons. 'He's as clever as his sister.'

'Like' is used with 'what' to ask about or refer to the qualities of someone or something. 'What is her new boyfriend like?' 'He's very nice.'
'Like is also used to mean typical of. 'It's just like him to be late' (= he is often late)
'Like' is also used to say in a way that is similar to. ' He was laughing like a hyena.' You cannot use 'as' in this way because the meaning changes.
'As your brother, I feel I should advice you not to leave university.' (= I am your brother)
'Like your brother, I feel I should advice you not to leave university.' (I am not your brother but believe the same as he does)  FROM -www.italk.com
